Occasionally the largest aircraft in the USAF, the C-5 Galaxy, makes an appearance in this area. The majority are on test flights from Robins AFB where they undergo depot maintenance. Such was the case this afternoon with this C-5M.
Typically these test flights fly west to near Selma, AL at less than 15,000 feet before returning to Robins AFB. If they need to climb to higher altitudes they will extend the track south to near Tallahassee.
Spotting these maintenance test flights can lead to some interesting observations. In years past I have seen a C-5 with just the front landing gear down and this one that had some unpainted structures.
But not all of the C-5s that fly over this area are from Robins AFB. Back on 7 October I briefly caught this one inbound to Lawson AAF at Ft Benning.
